COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. — Collegedale Community Church presents Selah in concert on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Collegedale Community Church.
Brother and sister Nicol and Todd Smith, who had been singing together from childhood, formed Selah in the late 90s with their close friend, pianist Allan Hall. The group’s name was taken from a Hebrew phrase meaning to lift up the voice in praise.
Well-known on Christian radio for songs such as “You Deliver Me,” “Unredeemed,” “Be Thou Near to Me,” and “Bless the Broken Road," the five-time GMA Music award-winning group continues to reveal the heart of its songs after more than a decade, seven recordings, and sales of more than 1 million albums later. The contemporary Christian praise and worship band impacts people all over the world and built up a strong following on the devotional circuit during its early years.
Selah has performed on The 700 Club, The Hour of Power, Life Today with James Robinson, and other programs. Nicol Smith left group to pursue solo career in 2004, and Amy Perry was hired as permanent replacement in 2005. One of the cutting edge favorites of Contemporary Christian Music, Selah is a trio whose style incorporates smooth pop, passionate devotional influences, and more than a touch of South African atmosphere.
“It’s important that people leave our concerts encouraged, that they don’t leave there the way they came,” says Amy. “If we can remind them God is real, and He is here, and He will take care of them, we’re doing what He wants us to do.”
Amy has been blogging about the group's effort at weight loss, reportedly down 80 pounds. You can read more about their personal efforts to address a healthier lifestyle at their website, which has links to their blogs.
The church is at 4995 Swinyar Drive. Advanced ticket prices are $25 for premium seating and $18 for others. Tickets are on sale at CollegedaleCommunity.com. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. Call (423) 396-5464 for more information.

The ministry is called Safe Families for Children. We are looking for host families who will provide parents a short term, safe, protective place for their children in times of crisis.
With the changing economy, thousands of families are facing job loss or financial crisis that can lead to housing loss. Others are dealing with illness, lack of social or family support, unpreparedness for parenting, substance abuse or incarceration. During such crises, many parents are in jeopardy of not being able to provide a safe and stable environment for their children, who can be especially at risk as parents struggle to cope with their circumstances and emotions. Without assistance, some of these situations will lead to abuse and neglect....
