REGIONAL — Learn how to beat debt, build wealth, and give more at Financial Peace University, a life-changing program by Dave Ramsey launching in eight churches throughout the greater Chattanooga area in August and September.
By the time Ramsey was 26 he had a net worth of a little over a million dollars. Making $250,000 a year, he still had a lot of debt which eventually caused his family to lose everything.
They soon learned they were not the only ones at the bottom, and Ramsey went on a quest to find out how money really works, how to get control and how to have confidence in managing it.
"I came to realize that my money problems, worries and shortages largely began and ended with the person in my mirror," Ramsey said. "If I could learn to manage the character I shaved with every morning, I would win with money."
More than 1 million families have gone through the 13-week program. Held once a week, each class is about two hours. During the first hour, Dave Ramsey teaches on video. During the second hour, class members come together for small-group discussion.
Class size represents 8 to 12 families (12–24 people). Members receive audio discs in the event they miss a class and want to make it up, though each must attend 12 of the 13 classes for a graduation certificate. Members support each other and hold each other accountable. Cost varies upon location, some sites offer limited scholarships and churches often include discounts unavailable online.

CHATTANOOGA, TN — Bethany of Greater Chattanooga has a new ministry opportunity for Christian families to show the love and compassion of Christ to families in our community that are facing various crises. The ministry is called Safe Families for Children. We are looking for host families who will provide parents a short term, safe, protective place for their children in times of crisis.
With the changing economy, thousands of families are facing job loss or financial crisis that can lead to housing loss. Others are dealing with illness, lack of social or family support, unpreparedness for parenting, substance abuse or incarceration. During such crises, many parents are in jeopardy of not being able to provide a safe and stable environment for their children, who can be especially at risk as parents struggle to cope with their circumstances and emotions. Without assistance, some of these situations will lead to abuse and neglect....
