etc logoCHATTANOOGA, TN — The Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga (ETC) is offering a variety of upcoming programs appealing to area families, including an unusual take on the original tales of the Brothers Grimm, beginning July 3.

Once deemed unsuitable for children, the stories rewrote their works in an effort to gain more mainstream appeal. In the ETC production of Grimm's grimmest works, "Not Suitable for Children," producers a look at the some of the darkest tales created by the brothers and stages them in the theater's unique and interpretative way.

Families should not to let the title scare them. This original creation should be a delight for the entire family. Dates include July 3, 7, 31 and Aug. 14.

Other productions this season include "Dreamland," where Edgar Allan Poe’s dark stories come to life onstage in another ETC original, June 26, July 10, July 24 and Aug. 7. And ETC applies its unique storytelling methods to one of the most classic stories of all time, Aug. 13 through 29, creating a special theatrical experience with "Romeo and Juliet."

ETC began as a whim in the imagination of Garry Lee Posey, founder and producing artistic director. A creator of opportunities for himself and other artists, Posey begin the small professional theater company in 2006 after he was awarded a special grant. The company recently partnered with the St. Andrew's Center, 1918 Union Avenue, for its theater space.

"We are constantly searching for programming that will serve ourselves, our craft and most importantly our communities," promoters say. "We have exciting plans for the future."

ETC seeks to create professional theatrical entertainment that serves to culturally enrich our community, engage the imagination, thoughtfully examine the social norms, courageously eliminate bias and defiantly explore theatre as an art form.
