CHATTANOOGA — Local dancers, singers and actors are invited to open auditions for the second annual “16 Hours to Christmas” stage production at Abba’s House on July 12-13 each night at 6:30 in the Awaken Worship Center.
“By opening up this casting call to the community, we hope to tap into some of the amazing talent in the Chattanooga area. This is truly a community-wide event,” explained Ken Hartley, pastor of arts and worship at Abba’s House.
July 12 will be child and teen auditions (ages 8-19), and July 13 will be teen and adult auditions (ages 13 and up).
This year’s story is told from the perspective of the chimney sweeps and is full of surprising twists and turns. Though it is still based on a fictionalization of the known facts surrounding the 16 hours leading up to Dickens’ writing of “A Christmas Carol,” some of the characters are expanded in this year’s story line and there are new characters that will make their debut this year. The 2010 script is written by Bill Marion and Megan Hartley.
“Those who saw last year’s program will find enough twists and turns in this year’s version for it to be fresh and interesting. And those who have never seen it will find it enjoyable and inspiring,” said Hartley.
No preparation is necessary for actors. Scripts will be handed out at registration. Vocalists must have a song prepared to sing. Dancers will be taught a routine to perform.

CHATTANOOGA, TN — Bethany of Greater Chattanooga has a new ministry opportunity for Christian families to show the love and compassion of Christ to families in our community that are facing various crises. The ministry is called Safe Families for Children. We are looking for host families who will provide parents a short term, safe, protective place for their children in times of crisis.
With the changing economy, thousands of families are facing job loss or financial crisis that can lead to housing loss. Others are dealing with illness, lack of social or family support, unpreparedness for parenting, substance abuse or incarceration. During such crises, many parents are in jeopardy of not being able to provide a safe and stable environment for their children, who can be especially at risk as parents struggle to cope with their circumstances and emotions. Without assistance, some of these situations will lead to abuse and neglect....
